Our Training Elements
Massage therapy involves manipulating client’s muscles to help them relax or improve mobility. They use a variety of techniques, depending on the client’s physical condition and age. Our students learn the importance of having dexterity, the ability to use one’s hands with skill, grace and ease.
Our students learn to assess a client’s skin type, including coloring, condition and sensitivity. They learn to properly prepare the skin before applying makeup, using cleaning, toning and moisturising techniques for different skin types. They practice applying foundation, blush, eye and brow liner, shadow and lip color.
A typical manicure or pedicure involves shaping the nails, cuticle treatment, removal of dead skin cells (exfoliation), application of polish, and possibly a hand massage. Manicure and pedicure treatments are one of the fastest-growing services in beauty therapy.
Our students learn how to perform a professional and long-lasting Gelish Soak-Off Gel Polish application and confidently perform Gelish nail art designs using the latest techniques in the beauty industry.
Where are they now?
Waseema grew up in Lavender Hill and dropped out of school in Grade 10. When Waseema heard about Sozo through her sister, even though she was working as a cashier she realised she wanted to do something more with her life, so she left her job and joined the skills programme in 2019 to study Hair & Beauty. She wanted to study further but could not afford it, as she is living on a social grant and taking care of her two daughters.
We realised Waseema’s passion and potential and offered her an internship in our Beauty School. One of our internship goals is to assist young people with saving some of their stipends for future educational opportunities. Waseema accumulated these savings to pay for accredited courses in waxing, facials and eyelashes. She then begin to see clients at home on weekends for extra income and a micro business was born! We continue to support Waseema on her entrepreneurship journey through coaching and mentoring and we aim to provide grant opportunities for more of our business-minded graduates in the near future!
